What's New At Grace

The Reason For The Season

11/29/2021

During my teen years, my parents were missionaries in Australia. Christmas did not “feel” like Christmas over there. Mainly because it was summer and over 100 degrees right in the middle of fire season. However, my family had a strong desire to continue setting up the Christmas tree in our living room, putting Christmas lights around the home, and even attempting things like drinking hot chocolate. But, even with great effort, the traditions did not feel like it once did. Why was this? Because Christmas had become a list of feelings, smells, sensations, and traditions.

But isn’t Christmas more than that? Of course, it is!

We came to a country to spread the hope of the gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ. We came to spread the Message of hope to the lost. We came to celebrate God’s goodness with the nations. But even with that as our primary objective we could easily get carried away by the loss of traditions.

December is here. You may be putting up your Christmas lights (even syncing them to music), setting up the tree, and searching high and low for the perfect gifts.

Before this season begins, take a moment to pause.

Christmas is a reminder of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. The best life changing gift. Take time this season to praise God, worship Him, pray to Him, and thank Him. Let’s make Christ known to our community this season and share the reason for our unconditional joy. Do not lose focus on what He has planned for your life in the name of a tradition.

- Pastor Brent

Luke 2:11-12, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger."
