What's New At Grace

Holy Week Preparation

4/4/2023

Picture
One tradition that started under the leadership of Pastor Garry was the dressing of the cross on the hill. The cross on the hill has thousands of cars drive by it daily. Many won’t even notice it or think twice if they do happen to see it on a daily basis. Each Holy Week the cross will dress in black cloth for Good Friday. This is the Friday where Jesus would sacrifice His life to save all who would receive Him as their Savior. The black represents death, sin, grief and a time of deep sorrow because of what Jesus had to go through to pay the price for our sins. It is called “Good Friday” because without it, we are destined for an eternity in Hell. It’s good because God was so good to us. On Sunday the color changes from black to purple. Purple is the color of a king. Jesus would be raised from the dead and resume being the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Purple is the reminder of the glorious victory that was won through the defeating of sin and death; Jesus’ triumph over death and the prophecy of a Messiah being fulfilled.

Can I encourage you to come prepared this weekend to our services? On Friday, can you clear your calendar from 6:30pm-7:30pm to remember the great sacrifice of Jesus on the cross? On Sunday can I encourage you to join one of our services for the celebration of Jesus raising from the dead? Last Easter, a few of our teenagers made the walk by foot to take some pictures of the cross. Maybe you need to take a walk and evaluate your faith, your discipline, your love of God. As we approach a weekend of remembering and celebrating, don’t wait until those services to get time with God. Come to our Friday service with a heart already filled with gratitude, come on Sunday with a heart that is ready to celebrate and offer praise.

Lastly, don’t come alone. Our mini mission this week is to invite everyone you see to join you in celebrating our Savior and what He accomplished for us on the cross.

I look forward to worshipping with you this weekend.
