What's New At Grace

A Season of Prayer

3/3/2022

Picture
It seems like it is almost every morning that we wake up to a new headline that could immediately send us to our knees in prayer.  Do you find yourself on your knees?  If not on your knees, do you still find yourself devoted to a life of prayer to God?  For the next 40 days we will be focusing as a church on fasting and prayer.  What is it that God would burden your heart for and how would you choose to take those burdens to Him humbly in prayer?

Fasting is a tool that God gives us to focus our hearts on prayer.  It is not supposed to be done because everyone else is doing it or because you feel like it is “the right thing to do.”  Fasting is a tool to train our hearts and focus our minds on the things above.  Giving something up doesn’t always have to be a loss.  Fasting is the losing of something for the sake of gaining a focus and natural reminder of our greater needs or the reminder of our need to pray for the meeting of others needs.  Has your life presented you with challenges where fasting is an appropriate response?  Has someone come to you with a great burden and you feel as if fasting and praying for them would be the appropriate response?  Lent is a great reminder to me that fasting is not a burden, it’s a tool God uses to remind us of our source of strength.

Over the next 40 Days of focused prayer sermons and devotions, we are asking you to consider fasting, daily engaging with a passage on prayer and considering how God may use these tools to strengthen your ministry.  The topics of our messages will center around the topics of prayer and why a person would pray, how to pray, having a focused prayer life, praying dangerous prayers and looking at some of the most powerful prayers prayed in the Bible.  My hope is that you will join us in seeking the Lord for His power, direction and direct intervention in our lives and in the lives of others as we become ministers of His gospel.

This Sunday Pastor Brent will kick-off the series by talking about why we should value prayer as a believer.
