Praising God in song is not always a muscle that everyone works out. One way I (Pastor Paul) can describe it is how sore your feet or legs are after a hike. For the person who hikes a lot, they might not feel as ill equipped as the casual or infrequent hiker. Some training and coaching is always helpful. If there was someone who could encourage you, lead you, show you a new way or help to prepare you for what you are about to experience then the joy of hiking and the fullest experience of worship and bringing God glory can be made possible. This is how I view our worship team. They choose songs, practice their instruments, work on chemistry and timing, show up early and then make it personal for us as we gather to worship on Sunday.
As a pastor who is not gifted in music and singing, I so appreciate the gifts that God has given others in the church to help facilitate and lead us in worship through praise. Our team is very talented and have a huge heart for how they can better lead you (the church) into bringing God the highest praise during our time together on Sundays.
This past Saturday we gathered to appreciate the team and shared a meal to honor all of those who serve in this capacity. As part of our time together, each individual was asked their favorite worship song, what the team could do to grow our worship, and what each individual could do to grow in their leadership in this area. It was very fun and joyful to hear the heart of each participant and how they hope God will use them and their gift to bring Him glory.
If you see one of those who help to lead us in worship through praise, be sure to thank them for all they do to serve the church and for leading us.
