In today’s world, the internet offers remarkable opportunities. We can connect with loved ones, expand our knowledge, and explore resources to deepen our faith. But with this connectivity also comes exposure to messages that will harm you and your family. We live in an era where the influence of secular ideas and distorted values infiltrates nearly every corner of media. From shows and movies to social media posts and news articles, we encounter images and language that challenge godly values, promote confusion, and blur the truth about who we are as image-bearers of Christ. The agenda devalues human life through gruesome violence, disrespects the wisdom of the elderly, undermines authority, and promotes anger, lust, unfaithfulness, and profanities. Most offensively, it boldly tarnishes the name of Jesus publicly, without shame (Exodus 20:7).
We live in a rebellious age where the social agenda actively targets family units through the media. You and your family are under spiritual attack. These messages are no longer subtly woven into what we watch; instead, they openly teach us and our children values that oppose God.
As Christians, we must acknowledge that these influences are not benign. They’re intentional in pulling us and our families away from God’s truth. Romans 1:32 warns us that, even though people know God’s righteous ways, many still choose to follow and even celebrate behaviors that lead to destruction. For this reason, we must stand guard over our hearts and minds and those of our loved ones.

Practical Steps for a Faithful Mindset
The good news is that God equips us with the wisdom and strength to live set apart from the world’s unholy messages. Here are a few practical steps to keep our minds focused on Christ in a digital age:
- Pray for Discernment and Self-Control. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your viewing habits. Pray for self-control to avoid content that conflicts with your faith and for discernment to see through messages that contradict God’s truth.
- Seek Accountability. Don’t rely solely on your judgment. Share your intention to be mindful of what you watch with someone who can encourage you and check in with you.
- Limit Screen Time and Social Media. Spend less time consuming media, and instead, engage in activities that foster real connection, creativity, and peace. Create boundaries around social media to prevent it from stealing time from God and your family.
- Check Content in Advance. Services like Plugged In by Focus on the Family and Common Sense Media can help you discern whether a show or movie aligns with godly values. Even as adults, we must remain careful about what we expose ourselves to.
Many are plagued by anxieties and depression and yet fill their minds with the content of this world. Philippians 4:8–9 reminds us, that our focus should be on what is true, honorable, pure, and praiseworthy. This guidance isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a recipe for peace. When we choose to fill our minds with God’s Word rather than the world’s distortions, we welcome the peace of God into our lives.
Renewing Our Minds with God’s Truth
Let’s not allow the messages of this world to influence our values and beliefs. Instead, let’s root ourselves in Scripture and spend time in fellowship with others who seek to honor God. As we fill our minds with God’s truth and turn away from harmful content, we’ll find greater peace, joy, and strength to live as faithful followers of Christ.
Protect your mind. Guard your heart. Choose to dwell on what is excellent and praiseworthy, and let the God of peace be with you.
