When we think of “church service,” our minds often drift to Sunday mornings on Live Oak. We picture the worship, the sermon, and the familiar faces in the seats. But the truth is, the church isn’t a building, it’s a body of people called to minister to one another and our community all week long.
In John 4:35-36, Jesus tells us that the fields are “ripe for harvest.” Right here in Lake County, there are unique, “out of the box” needs waiting for the right person with the right passion to step up. Whether you are looking to jump into an established ministry or feel a nudge to start something brand new, there is a place for your specific gifts.
In-House Opportunities
Sometimes, the most profound ministry happens right under our own roof by making sure everyone feels welcome and seen.
- Special Needs: We occasionally have families visit who have children with special needs. Currently, we don’t have a dedicated program to support them. Do you have a heart for these families? We are looking for individuals willing to provide specialized care and companionship, ensuring every child can experience the love of Christ while their parents engage in the service.
- American Sign Language (ASL): Imagine sitting through a service and not being able to hear the worship or the message. We occasionally welcome hearing-impaired guests who would be deeply blessed by a translator. If you are proficient in ASL, you could be the bridge that connects someone to the Gospel.
Taking the Light into Lake County:
- Care & Convalescent Homes: There is a profound mission field in our local care centers. While we have an active ministry at Meadowood Nursing Center, places like Lakeport Post Acute and Rocky Point Care Center are filled with residents who hunger for conversation, prayer, and a reminder that they aren’t forgotten. Many of whom are asking important questions like, “What happens after death?”
- Jail: We currently have a presence at the Lake County Jail, but more people could enable being on site more often. People in the jail may be considering their choices and looking for hope. Perhaps you could be one of the people bringing them the hope of Jesus?
- Rehab Centers: Our county has a great need for recovery programs, mentors, and spiritual support in local centers. These can be ripe locations for people searching for hope and a second chance.
- Are we missing something? Perhaps you have had your eye on an area in our county that desperately needs the Gospel. Is God tugging at you to get involved in a different way?
Strengthening Our Existing Ministries
We have several beautiful ministries already in motion that are always looking for fresh energy and willing hands:
- Meal Ministry: Providing comfort through a warm dish during seasons of grief, illness, or new parenthood.
- Widow & Widower Ministry: Walking alongside those who have lost their spouses, ensuring they are never alone in their journey.
- Open Arms Ministry: A vital part of our outreach that continues to serve the community meeting weekly on Wednesdays in Lucerne.
What is Your “Something”?
Ministry isn’t about filling a slot on a volunteer roster. It is about matching your passion to a person’s need. Maybe you have a skill you never thought could be used for God, or maybe you’ve felt a tug on your heart for a specific group of people mentioned above.
The workers are few, but the opportunities are endless.
If you feel called to help with special needs care, ASL translation, or any of our local outreach efforts, let’s talk. Whether it’s an established path or a new trail you’re meant to blaze, your “out of the box” service might be exactly what someone in Lake County is praying for today.
