Well here's a list that may answer a bunch.
- People of all ages come to family camp from newborns to 80 year olds!
- Pamplin Grove is a 3+ hour journey from the church.
- It is legit camping. No plumbing here for bathrooms or showers. Camp latrines and port-a-potties are on site for our use. There is a coin operated shower (quarters only) down the road about a mile or so, which we all use at certain points in the week (some more than others). However, there is a sink and faucets with running water to help rinse dishes and so forth.
- Campfires are allowed, and we do have a community pile of firewood, but if you can bring a little bit- every little bit helps.
- You will need to bring your own food, but the tendency is to have "people over for dinner," so ask around beforehand to get together with some folks and plan accordingly. There is also one night that we have a potluck. One strategy many of us have picked up is grocery shopping in Fortuna or somewhere else along the way. And when you realize what you forgot, there is usually someone making a run into town who is willing to pick up a thing or two for folks.
- It is warm/hot during the day, and downright chilly at night, so bring warm clothing and a warm sleeping bag too. And make sure to bring any swimming trunks and towels so you can cool down in the river. Water shoes are also a good idea to get yourself to and from the water (and in the water) thanks to all the rocks.
- Things to do there: Volleyball, Swimming in the River, Hillbilly Golf (old dinged up clubs are provided), Board and Card Games (so bring a few to play with folks), bike riding for any and all ages that bring their bicycles with them, Day Trips to Ferndale/Eureka/Samoa Cookhouse, wiffle ball, nighttime capture the flag, making biscuit dough bread on sticks on the last night, daily worship and teaching, and enjoying time out in the great outdoors.
- Make sure to pack some sunscreen and bug spray. Also be aware that there is poison oak on site so bringing along a small bottle of Tecnu may be wise.
- This is a dog friendly camping ground.
- If you need any of the basic camping equipment, please contact Pastor Jason or Mike Esser to see what we can get together for you.
