Men’s Retreat September 7-9, 2012

Join us for Grace Church's annual men's retreat on the coast!

Each year we have a lot of fun hanging out, playing sports and relaxing, but we also have some engaging times of teaching and worship. So this retreat is a great way to get to know other guys, experience God's creation, and grow through worship and teaching.

COST/REGISTRATION
$59 if you sign up before 9/2, $69 after that!

WHAT TO BRING
Please bring a 12-pack of soda or some chips/dip to share. Bring a sleeping bag/pillow--beds and showers are provided. Bring your Bible and toiletries as well. We're on the coast with access to a dock, so bring a kayak, dive equipment, or whatever else you want to do in your free time!

MEALS
We provide meals for Friday dinner thru Sunday lunch.

VBS 2012

The current generation of kids knows video games and computers like never before. That's why a video game themed VBS was just what we needed. 165 different kids were able to connect to such a popular theme while learning a deeper truth-- giving the controls to God no matter what the circumstance. The success of the week was only through the power of God working through the many volunteers. From crafts to snacks to music to bounce houses to missions to the verse room to individual group leaders, the helpers showed the kids the love of Christ and got them excited about things that really matter, like raising $645.94 for drilling wells in the remote villages of Haiti and the 18 kids who made first time decisions to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. None of this could have happened without all of the prayers and support of the church family. We wish to give a big thank you to all who were involved and we give all of the glory to God.

Supporting Our 2012 Mulege Team

A mission’s trip to Mulegè, Mexico is more than just a long drive and warm weather. It will change countless lives, including the 22 students and adults making the trip and the 120 orphans in San Bruno who will be attending VBS. These orphans will be able to spend time with our team, play games, listen to stories, and hear about the Lord Jesus Christ. The team will not only minister to these children, but will be reaching out to countless others in the surrounding areas as well.

A mission’s team is also not alone: they need the support of their church family. Rachel Ahlmann, coordinator of the trip, said that they were “overwhelmed by the support the church is giving our team,” which was especially seen last Sunday at the auction fundraiser. There were many people involved in making it a successful fundraiser, and the team was surprised and overjoyed at the amount of money that was raised. They had many generous donations and many generous bidders. In total, they raised $7,300, which was nearly 75% of the funds necessary for the trip. They are so thankful for the support the church family has given them.

This team can confidently leave for Mexico this July to share good news and love of Jesus Christ, knowing that they have a family of support and prayer behind them.

College Group Begins 1 Corinthians Series

The College Group is beginning a series on 1 Corinthians, with the second week of the series (covering 1 Cor. 1:10-31) this Thursday, September 1st. 1 Corinthians is a wonderful book for today's believer to study, with so much applicable direction on topics like division in the church, spiritual gifts, sex, love, and God's wisdom versus the wisdom of the world. Eric Schlange teaches the group each week in a discussion-oriented format, which helps us all think and retain more.

If you're college-aged (18-25ish) please join us! The group meets at Eric and Monica Schlange's home at 983 19th St. in Lakeport. Our group seems to be growing bigger every week, but we typically have 5-10 folks there, so it's a good size for discussion and hanging out. Snacks are served, and good times are had!

Refuge Kickoff September 15

Pastor Chris and his team have completed an enormous summer.

It all kicked off with Epic Midnight Madness where we had more students than ever.

This even was followed up by the Student Leadership Conference in Azusa where students were challenged to be servants if they desire to be leaders.

Of course we are all well aware of our partnership with the churches of Mulege Mexico. This partnership was kicked into high gear with eleven missionaries putting on a wonderful VBS and also doing some cleaning up for local church members. The highlight of the trip, however, was the relationships that were formed.

The final trip of the summer was an exciting time at Rock and Water Christian outdoor adventure camp.

Now we are looking forward to the fall and the September 15th Kickoff!

Vacation Bible School 2011 Wrap-Up

Each year we hold a "Vacation Bible School" week-long program for children in our community, ages 6-6th grade. This year's VBS went from July 11-15th and was incredibly fun, with lots of kids showing up for a great time learning about the "Amazing Book" in a gameshow-style setting. Our goal was to teach children that God's Word is true, which is a very important thing to learn in an age where many believe truth is relative and there are no absolutes.

Thanks to the efforts of approximately 100 volunteers nearly 260 different children showed up throughout the week. Mostly importantly, over 65 children who made commitments to follow Christ, and $618 was raised for our sister church in Mulege, Mexico. Praise God for His blessings, and thanks to everyone who helped out!

Join Us For Family Camp 2011!

We've always had a faithful bunch of folks who attend family camp each year, but this year we're taking it to a new level and pushing for everyone else to give it a try as well! If you've never been to Family Camp at Pamplin Grove, you don't know what you're missing! The setting is beautiful and cool, amidst huge redwood trees, with a large river nearby for swimming. Both RV/trailer and tent camping spaces are available.

We'll have organized games (volleyball, horseshoes, wiffle ball, etc) as well as lots of group times around the main firepit. But there is also plenty of time to just hang out and relax!

Pastor Garry will be speaking each day, with worship music led by Eric and the Rustics (Eric Schlange and a yet-to-be-named bunch of unshowered musicians).

Dates and Times: August 13-20th. Check-in is at noon on the 13th, check-out is at 11AM on the 20th
Cost: $50 per adult, $35 per child, with a maximum cost of $170/family
Signing Up: you don't need to! Just show up to sign up, and pay when you arrive.

Epic Midnight Madness III New Year’s Eve Party Wrapup

On December 31st 2010 420+ students and 50+ adult volunteers descended on the Lakeside Lanes Bowling Alley/Fun Center for 12 hours of craziness. Bowling, jump houses, karaoke, arcade games, laser tag, and food were all provided for just $15/ticket.

Our next EMM event will happen when school is out some time in June. Stay tuned!
